Location: Ohio USA Established: November 27, 2015 Command Staff: BCO: Briankenobi (Brian Pauley) BXO: bountyhunterq (Dave Quillen) BMO: Bacca9 (Jamie Arielle) Apollo Base is the latest branch of the Rebel Legion with deep ties in Ohio. As part of the Great Lakes Base, which originally covered Michigan and Ohio, our members attended over 200 events a year. During its 5 year run, Michigan and Ohio experienced a lot of growth in members, which lead to the states separating into their own bases. Now with the inception of Apollo Base, Ohio is poised to continue to serve The Buckeye State with over 100 events every year. Some of the high profile events we attend every year are: -The Columbus Clippers (AAA baseball team for the Cleveland Indians) -The Cincinnati Reds game -Yuri’s Night (a celebration of space and astronauts) We continue to grow and have a very diverse character roster. We have a number of Wookiees and Jawas and we still have more people working on those costumes. Jackson Becomes a Jedi
This was a joint event between Ghost Base and Garrison Carida of the 501st Legion to make a little boy’s wish come true. Jack has terminal brain cancer and he wanted nothing more than to become a Jedi. His wish was going to be granted at Disney World, but in the fall, his cancer worsened quickly, so Make-a-Wish sent Jack and his family to Disney World, but when they got there, the Jedi Academy was closed. Our Clubhouse, a cancer support center for children and their families, offered their space for us to help make Jack’s wish come true. Ghost Base had less than two weeks to organize something, and everyone involved responded in an amazing fashion. Three Ghost Base members – Erin Blank, Amy Hill, and Josh Murphy – all helped to make a Jedi costume for Jack worthy of the Rebel Legion, which included robes, a tunic, spats to serve as boots, and his very own lightsaber. Radu Plucinsky of the 501st Legion also made a youngling training helmet (like the ones seen in Episode II) for Jack. Amy and Erin also worked with a western PA seamstress to quickly create fifteen robes for the other younglings (Jack’s friends and family) that accompanied Jack at the event. Bobby and Jessica Linn of the 501st Legion prepared for all of the younglings, which included Matchbox cars, posters, action figures, and so much more! They also provided Jackson with a posted signed by Stephen Stanton who voiced Grand Moff Tarkin in The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. Ryan Miorelli of Sunrider Base also graciously volunteered to walk through the Jedi Academy script provided by Lucas Film, and he handled everything with wisdom and patience worthy of a true Jedi Master. Ryan taught the children how to calm their minds, to think positive, and to use the Force to repel enemies, which everyone -Jackson especially – got to put to the test with the arrival of Darth Vader, his guards, and his officers. Jackson himself stood up and chased Vader out of the room with the power of the Force! Without everyone’s efforts from both the Rebel Legion and the 501st, none of this would have been possible, andJackson’s dream would never have come true. “The Force Awakens” World Premiere
Collaborators: William Holmes, Chris Hummel, Adam Warman December 14th of 2015 is a memorable day for Star Wars fans across the galaxy, but especially for the costuming organizations that promote the famous franchise. Members of the Rebel Legion, 501st Legion, Mandalorian Mercs and The Dark Empire were invited to the World Premiere of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” at El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California. About a half mile of Hollywood Boulevard was closed for preparation of the event. A tent was setup covering the entrances of the main venue, as well as the Dolby Theater and the TCL Chinese Theater. Fans started gathering alongside the Boulevard starting at 2pm. A livestream started at around 4:30pm PST which was broadcast on the official website, StarWars.com. National and international press covered the event. At 6:00pm PST, people headed to the theaters. One of the theaters was selected for an introductory speech from Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company) about the legacy of “Star Wars” in the history of popular culture, while introducing the president of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, alongside J.J. Abrams (director) and Lawrence Kasdan (screenwriter of “The Empire Strikes Back”, “Return Of The Jedi” and assistant screenwriter for “The Force Awakens”). Shortly after, the main cast was introduced to an astonished audience prior to the beginning of the main event. Right after the main event, guests were escorted to the after party section, which was prepared with all kinds of amenities for the red carpet guests, turning Hollywood Boulevard in a party that people will never forget. We consider ourselves fortunate to receive an invitation to the World Premiere of the most awaited movie of the decade, if not of the century. J.J. Abrams did not disappoint with his vision of the galaxy far, far away that has been passed from generations; my mother was 19 when the “Star Wars” was released, I was 18 when “The Phantom Menace” was released, and most of my contemporaries already have kids who will enjoy the new adventures of our beloved characters, and will pass the baton to the new heroes. Puerto Rico Base At The Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra

More details about this mission can be found here On October 30 and 31, and November 21st, Puerto Rico Symphony Orchestra hosted the event “A Celebration to Star Wars” at the Luis A. Ferre Performing Arts Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. What originally started as two concerts turned into six sold-out concerts in which people of all ages congregated with the common interest on the very popular sci-fi franchise. Rebel Legion members from the Puerto Rico Base (and a special guest from Cruz del Sur Base) participated in the majority of the concerts, alongside members of the 501st Legion Puerto Rico Garrison and the Puerto Rico Clan of the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club. The result was a complete interactive experience between the attendees, the orchestra musicians and the members of the Star Wars costuming clubs. “The Puerto Rico Garrison Commander, Jose Nieves, works with the Orchestra. He and the staff of the Performing Arts Center Luis A. Ferre invited us to be part of the concert”, said Maria Judith Gandia (mjudith), Base Commanding Officer of the Puerto Rico Base. “In the first five concerts, Nancy Nevarez (Anikah) represented the Rebel Legion on stage during one of the performances.” The concert featured the Lyrical Chorale of Puerto Rico, directed by the soprano Joanne Herrero. Under the direction of master Rafael Irizarry, the Symphony performed the musical score for both trilogies, which was composed by John Williams. Rebel Legion member Julia Pizarro performed with the chorale during the performance of “Duel Of The Fates” from “The Phantom Menace” musical score. One of our members, Nancy Nevarez, was prominently featured as “Princess Leia”, alongside with a remote-controlled R2-D2 on the stage, recreating the iconic scene in which the popular character is introduced to the audience in “A New Hope”. “From the beginning of the dress rehearsal, the emotion was more than I could handle. Listening to the Symphony Orchestra for the first time gave me an incredible peace of mind that I needed lately”, recalls Legion member Nancy Nevarez (Anikah). “When I heard the first chords of “Princess Leia Theme”, I was trembling as I walked to the stage. I wanted to cry, but I kept control of my emotions. The elegance and wisdom of the master had no equal. Meeting with members from our sister organizations fulfilled me because of the professionalism and camaraderie among them. REBEL LEGION HELPS CHILDREN’S CHARITY AT CELEBRATION ANAHEIM
Members and friends of the Rebel Legion costuming group raised over $8,000 at their first-ever charity dinner, held during Star Wars Celebration Anaheim. Celebrity guests including Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Jeremy Bullock (Boba Fett) and Lee Towersey, R2D2 builder for the new Star Wars movie The Force Awakens, joined members of Lucasfilm’s preferred “good guys” costuming club to support children’s charity Variety through a series of raffles and auctions. The charity dinner was the brainchild of three Rebels – Rick Chinn from Hoth Base in Australia, Suzi Stelling and Roman Bela from Elstree Base in the United Kingdom – who decided to use the opportunity to fundraise for Variety while Rebel Legion members from all over the world were gathered together for the biggest event in Star Wars fandom. 300 people attended the event, which highlighted the Rebel Legion’s motto of Costuming – Charity – Community. Guest speakers included David Small, the Executive Director of Variety International; Albin Johnson, founder of the 501st Legion and the Galactic Academy; and Pete Vilmur, head of fan relations from Lucasfilm. “Coming from a show business background, the Rebel Legion and Variety, the Children’s Charity share a common goal of building a better, more fun world. Like the Rebel Legion has “bases” around the world, Variety has “tents” across the world serving children at a local, national and international level,” David said later. “We are thrilled to be working with the Rebel Legion globally to help brighten the lives of many more children. On behalf of the kids Variety supports, we thank the Rebel Legion members for their support and partnership.” Auction and raffle prizes included a Star Wars Episode 7 crew jacket, several signed X-wing helmets, a crystal reveal lightsaber and a Chewbacca messenger bag signed by Peter Mayhew. Rare Rebel Legion collectors’ items were also auctioned off to bring in more money for Variety. Donna Keeley, commanding officer of the Rebel Legion, said: “We are proud of what we were able to achieve with our Charity Dinner. Our only regret is that we had to turn so many people away as it sold out about two months before the night. We had great guest speakers, a very generous crowd and some special VIPs to join us. “Our hope is that this can become one of our signature events, to have the Rebel Legion Charity Dinner at Star Wars Celebrations supporting a wonderful charity.” Plans are now under way to hold another charity dinner at Celebration Europe in London next year. Let’s come together to celebrate our Costuming – Charity – Community, we will have some food, have some fun, raise some money for charity, talk about costuming and maybe even mingle with some VIP’s. We are partnering with Variety International to raise money to help provide the best quality of life to disabled and underprivileged children around the world.
